Volvo’s smallest SUV offering, the XC40 has been launched in India. The Volvo XC40 will be presented in a single variant – R-Design and in choice of three colors of Red, White and Blue. Price is Rs 39.9 lakh, ex-showroom.
To come in as a Completely Built Unit, the XC40 sports an upright front grille, LED head lamps with DRLs, a roof mounted spoiler and L shaped tail lamps. It also gets a dual tone bumper, twin chrome exhausts and sits on 18” alloys which are offered as standard and add a sporty stance to the vehicle.
In terms of dimensions, the Volvo XC40 measures 4,425mm in length, 1,652mm in height and 1,863mm in width. It gets ground clearing of 211mm which is the best in its class.
Interiors, done up in color options of either all black or black and orange dual tones, are highly functional. It features a 3 spoke multi function steering wheel, twin dial digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system and vertical AC vents. Done up in leather upholstery, the Volvo XC40 is comfortable for upto 5 adults. Boot space is at 460 liters which can be further augmented with rear seats turned down.
Volvo XC40, in India, will be powered exclusively by a diesel engine. This is a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine offers 190 hp power at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm torque at 1,750-2,500 rpm mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. Petrol engine will be launched later, if there is demand.
The Volvo XC40 competes with the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA in the premium SUV segment. Price of the XC40 fully loaded variant is about Rs 4 lakhs lesser than that of the most expensive car in the segment – BMW X1 M Sport package.
