2018 Volvo XC60 is a luxury crossover which made its global debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show earlier today. New XC60 is in line with the Swedish brand’s latest design language but it’s not merely a shrunken XC90. For instance, the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED light signature extends all the way to the grille, and the rear taillamp detailing is fresh.
As with the recent Volvos, 2018 XC60 will incorporate a completely revamped and much more upmarket interior but the extent of commonality with the 90 series models remains to be seen. The Mercedes GLC rival will feature a comprehensive Sensus Connected Touch infotainment system.
Underpinning the 2018 Volvo XC60 are the familiar Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) which also serves XC90, S90 and V90. The range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will be on offer. Hybrids, three-cylinder variants, and a pure electric version are expected at later stages.
2018 Volvo XC60 would play a crucial role in the automaker’s global sales performance in 2017. Going by the reception its big brother received at the time of launch, the new mid-size premium SUV could very well become Volvo’s best selling product in no time. Sales in Europe is expected to commence in mid-2017. India launch is likely to be slated for end-2017.
“We have a strong heritage in designing stylish and dynamic SUVs that offer the latest in technology. The new XC60 will be no exception. It’s the perfect car for an active lifestyle, and it represents the next step in our transformation plan,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive, Volvo Car Group.
