Next gen Toyota Fortuner spied on a trailer in Thailand before debut next week

The next gen Toyota Fortuner has been spied on board a trailer along with its recently unveiled pickup sibling Hilux Revo. The passenger carrying version is all set to make its global premiere on July 17 in Thailand. Indian launch is expected sometime next year, possibly at the Auto Expo 2016 in February.

The blackened top half, stylish new alloys, plastic cladding make the new Fortuner sportier than ever.

As expected, 2016 Fortuner adopts a revolutionary design. Though most of the car is fully covered, a set of blurry teasers uploaded by Headlightmag reveal that the front fascia derives heavy inspiration from Lexus, Toyota’s premium brand.

The SUV appears to have a distinctive light signature and an imposing chrome grille. The profile too has nothing in common with the previous gen car. Large alloy wheels, blacked out pillars for a floating roof effect and a pronouned roof spoiler makes for an unmissable stance. While its predecessor relied on a bulky stance to command respect on the road, the new car settles for a dynamic appearance.

2016 Toyota Fortuner read undisguised.

The rear fascia gets wraparound combination lights, a chrome embellished liecense plate enclosure and silver skid plate.

Inside, dashboard design is sufficiently different from that of Hilux Revo but few components like steering wheel, gear lever and stalks appear to have been borrowed.

The rear quarter reveals Evoque styled roof styling to give the car a more coupe’ish stance.

Based on the new gen IMV platform which will also underpin next gen Innova, also due for 2016 in India, new Fortuner will be powered by a set of new GD family diesel engines displacing 2.4- and 2.8-litre. Better performance and efficiency would be on offer.

With the next gen Fortuner, Toyota would be hoping to retain the segment leadership it enjoys in India, notwithstanding the arrival of new Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The huge headlight casing features LED DRLs and projector headlamps. Alloys feature a unique new design.
