Bikers stop police vehicle which was being driven rashly on road – Turns out, driver cop was drunk

Alert bikers on the Western Express Highway helped to nab a constable who was at the wheels of a police van in an inebriated condition. The incident occurred on Sunday night and Ankush Sanap, 41, attached to the MHB Colony Police Station is likely to be suspended.

Sanap, who is a driver at the police station had taken the van for refuelling to Santacruz. As per procedure, whenever police vehicles are to be refuelled, the driver is always accompanied by a policeman and Sanap was accompanied Parab, another constable.

Bikers on the Western Express Highway who noted the driver of the van was not driving properly and in a zig zag fashion, decided to follow and managed to stop the van in Kandivli East. The bikers questioned the constable and noted that he was drunk.

Soon a group of men gathered around the van and some of them recorded the incident on their smartphones. A video of which has been circulated on social media. The driver Sanap can be seen sitting in an inebriated state and Parab is talking on his mobile phone. Sanap was brought to the police station and arrested. A case of drunken driving has been registered and blood samples have been collected for testing. Sanap was booked u/s 185 of Motor Vehicles and Maharashtra Prohibition Act after the results were positive.

Videos circulating on social media give rise to various questions being asked as to how the cops can penalize the public for riding without a helmet or for drunken driving when one of their own is guilty of the same offence. Onlookers also noted that Sanap was in uniform and should have been checked before being allowed to get behind the wheel in a drunken condition.
