Slated for launch earlier but bogged down due to formalities, the new Vespa 946 which was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo will finally launch in India in June 2014. Coming in with an attractive design with a high level of attention to detail, the most significant feature is its floating seat which is minus any grip for pillion to hold onto. LED headlamps and tail lamps with LCD instrument cluster will also be observed on board the new Vespa 946.
Vespa 946 sits on a steel monocoque chassis and is being offered in four color choices. It receives two engine options – a 125cc engine offering 11.95 ps power and 10.3 Nm torque and a 150cc engine option offering 13.2 ps power and 12.6 Nm torque. While these two engine options are being offered in global markets, India may only receive the 150cc engine.
The youthful and dynamic Vespa S was launched in India earlier this month for a price of Rs 74, 414. Its square headlight, decisive mudguard design and unique saddle are distinguishing features of the Vespa S.
Vespa 946 launched in 2013 is the most technologically advanced model ever created. Safety features on board Vespa 946 will include traction control system, Anti Slip Regulator, disc brakes in front and rear and ABS. It will be introduced into the country via the CBU route and will be painstakingly assembled by hand. It will clearly be a super premium product from Vespa positioned at the top of its product lineup.
