Renault India, the Indian subsidiary of the famous French car manufacturer, has launched the much awaited Captur, aka Kaptur, crossover in India. It costs higher than the Duster and will rival mainly the Maruti S-Cross, Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500. The Captur is already on sale in several markets and its India launch will happen after much delay. Underpinning the new SUV is Duster’s B0 platform. In Europe, the model is based on the Clio’s platform, but for India, the architecture will be shared with the Duster to keep costs in control. It will even help the Indian model to be longer and wider, and hence, more spacious than its European sister. We test drove the Captur a few weeks back, and you can read the detailed review here.
Renault India says that the Captur offers a really fresh design that will impress the urban crossover buyers. Its front-end is characterized by a V-shaped grille that is flanked by a really sleek pair of headlamps. In the side profile, it looks sporty due to a flared wheel arches and a really sleek profile. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,329 mm in length, 1,813 mm in width and 1,619 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2,673 mm. The new crossover enjoys a ground clearance of 212 mm, which is something that buyers will high appreciate. At the rear, the car gets premium-looking taillamps that boast C-shaped LED elements. Further enhancing the visual appeal are the dual tone paint schemes.
Even the interior looks modern and contemporary like the exterior. The crossover’s cabin offers a premium feel and the features list and quality of materials stands at par with the Hyundai. Like its main adversary, the new Renault SUV in India will be a strict 5-seater. However, the cabin space will be enough to offer good legspace and shoulder-room to occupants at both the front and the rear. Safety features will include front airbags, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and anti-theft alarm.
Powering the Captur are the same 1.5-litre Petrol and Diesel engines that power the Duster. This means that the new Renault SUV might even get a CVT for the petrol and an AMT for the Diesel engine option. The Petrol engine pumps out a peak power of 105 BHP for the Duster. The famous K9K Diesel engine offers 108 BHP. The engines might be retuned for the new SUV though. It will come with both front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive formats. This will ensure that the Captur is pretty capable even off the road.

Renault Captur India Exterior
The Captur for India will be larger than the one on sale in Europe. That said, it will still look a lot like its European counterpart. The new SUV from Renault looks really modern and very sleek. The front-end of the car is characterized by a wide V-shaped grille that is flanked by sleek headlamps on the sides. At the centre of the grille is a large Renault badge. The stylish bumpers, along with the LED DRLs, make the car’s facade look premium and even a bit athletic. Even the side profile looks sporty with its blacked-out C-pillar and an overall sleek design. The flared wheel arches, roof rails, and 17-inch wheels complete the package here. At the rear, there is a pair of LED taillights and a stylish bumper that are sure to catch your attention.
As is the case with models like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta, and also with the upcoming Tata Nexon, even the Captur will offer dual-paint options to its buyers. Overall, the new Renault SUV in India will surely please many with its overall sleek and modern exterior design.
Renault Captur India Interior
The new Renault Captur SUV for India will offer a more spacious interior than its Euro-spec sibling. This will be due to the increase in length and width. But even the India-spec model will be a strict five-seater. The car will offer a spacious cabin that will have decent leg-space, knee-room, shoulder-room, and head-room space for passengers at both the front and the rear. Talking of its design, the interior will be as stylish and modern as the exterior. The quality of materials and the fit-and-finish will be top notch to justify the high price tag. As discussed already, the features list will offer many high-end comfort and safety equipment, which will again help justify the higher-than-Duster price tag.
