Renault Kwid Brazil production set to commence in September 2016

Renault Kwid Brazil production in September 2016

Renault’s Indian R&D centre played a primary role in the car’s development.

Autossegredos reports that the Renault Kwid’s production in Brazil is set to commence in September 2016. The entry level budget hatchback for the Brazilian market (codenamed XBB) will incorporate certain market-specific modifications over the Indian model.

The most important difference will come from the powertrain department. The 0.8-litre three cylinder engine would be engineered to run on both petrol and ethanol (flex-fuel) and is estimated to have a power output of around 60 PS while running on ethanol. Just like the India-spec Kwid, the Brazilian model will also receive a bigger and more powerful 1.0-litre engine at a later stage. Both motors will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Brazil-spec car will feature flex-fuel version of the 0.8-litre engine in addition to standard ABS with EBD and airbags.

Also the Latin American version of the micro-crossover will have ABS with EBD and front airbags as standard features which are not offered in India even as optional extras. We also expect the a few additional features to be offered compared to the Indian model.

The Renault Kwid is estimated to be priced under 30,000 Brazilian reals (around INR 5.02 lakhs). If Renault can achieve this price point, the Kwid will be one of the most affordable cars in the country. Competition would come from the Fiat X1H (codename) small car which is currently in final testing phase.
