The eagerly awaited Renault Kwid budget small car is scheduled to be launched tomorrow. With an SUV-like styling, the most affordable Renault is all set to wage a war against the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon.
The big small car is spacious, has a refreshing design approach while retaining the quintessential A-segment traits such as a light kerb weight (around 660 kg) and small 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which returns an ARAI certified fuel economy of 25.17 kmpl. At 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque, the motor is at par with the segment standards. A 5-speed manual transmission drives the front wheels.
The Kwid is the first product to be based on the Alliance’s CMF-A modular low-cost platform which was primarily engineered in India. The local development, combined with a heavy localization of 98% would enable Renault to arrive at a competitive pricing. Unveiling the car earlier this year in Chennai, Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CEO Carlos Ghosn assured that the car will be priced between INR 3-4 lakhs (ex-showroom).
To hatchback will be available in four variants. Salient features include 7-inch MediaNav touchscreen infotainment system, optional driver airbag, front power windows, central locking, keyless entry with remote, fog lamps, etc. ABS is not even offered as an option.
