A completely new motorcycle, Royal Enfield Himalayan will make global debut today in India. It is made for those who wanted to travel the world on a motorcycle, no matter the distance or terrain. Yes, Royal Enfield Himalayan is a true adventure motorcycle built to last any terrain the rider throws at it.
Up until today, such a bike would have set you back by a couple of lakhs, cause the options in the entry level are the likes of Benelli 600 GT, Kawasaki Versys 650, Triumph Tiger 800, and so on. What Royal Enfield has done, is designed a bike which will be similar in characteristics to the names above, but will also be easy on the pocket.
Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by LS400, a single cylinder 410 cc oil-cooled engine which is rated at 25 hp and 32 Nm. Mated to a 5-speed gearbox, RE claims that service intervals are at 10,000 kms, while spark plug change is required at 25,000 kms.
Built on a chassis designed by Harris Performance Parts, Himalayan is the first RE motorcycle to feature rear mono-shock suspension. Tested by CS Santosh, features on offer with Himalayan includes 21 inch wheels in the front, 19 inch at the rear, off-road tyres, long travel front suspension, analogue / digital instrument panel with speedometer, odometer, tachometer, altimeter and compass.
Hosting the launch event is none other than their CEO and MD, Siddhartha Lal. The launch event is scheduled to start at 11 AM, and you can watch the same on your computer / smartphone in the feed below.
