Royal Enfield to double production capacity to 9 lakh units per annum

Construction of the third plant would commence in early 2016.

The brisk growth in the domestic market and aggressive expansion in the international market has given Royal Enfield enough confidence to invest in a third manufacturing plant in addition to increasing capacities at the existing facilities.

Talking to PTI after a board meeting, Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO of Eicher Motors (Royal Enfield’s parent company) revealed that the board has passed an in-principal approval for construction of a new plant at Vallam Vadagal near Chennai. He also stated that the plant will eventually equip the brand with a production capacity of 9 lakh units per annum.

Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure tourer will be launched in early 2016.

The existing plants at Thiruvottriyur and Oragadam will be having an installed production capacity of 4.5 lakh units once the ongoing expansion activities are completed. Mr. Lal also informed that construction of the new plant will commence early next year and the total investment will be finalized in another board meeting.

Speaking about the new products in the pipeline, the top official confirmed that the company will launch 2 engine platforms in the near futrue. The first production will be launched early next year while the second one is due for 2017. The first product Mr. Lal referred to is the Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure tourer which is undergoing extensive road testing as of now.
