Alleged drunk driver rams BMW into Maruti WagonR – Driver killed

It was on Sunday night at 11.30 pm, at the South Delhi Munirka area that a 32 year old cab driver in a Maruti WagonR was killed by a speeding BMW. The two cars were travelling towards Vasant Vihar from Kalkaji when they collided at the Munirka flyover. The impact was such that Nazrul Islam, who was at the wheel of the WagonR died on the spot. The driver of the BMW however, abandoned the car and fled the scene of the crime.

CCTV footage of the accident is being assessed by Delhi Police while eye witnesses state that the driver of the BMW was travelling at great speed and was in all probability under the influence of alcohol. CCTV footage also revealed that the same BMW had hit a rickshaw puller a few minutes before colliding with the WagonR. Luckily the rickshaw puller managed to escape unhurt as he moved out of the way before the car could hit him.

Eye witnesses confirmed that the BMW hit the Maruti WagonR from behind causing it to fly into the air and land on the ground after which it skidded for close to 50 meters before coming to a halt. The entire rear of the WagonR was ripped apart.

Sadly, this is not the first time such an incident has been reported. In fact, number of accidents caused on Indian roads are the highest in the world. Apart from being attentive when in control of a vehicle, we must also obey traffic rules with utmost respect. This simple rule will help in bringing down the number of accidents caused on Indian roads.
