Keeping with its recently started tradition of showcasing a new concept at the Geneva Motor Show every year, Mahindra’s South Korean subsidiary SsangYong is gearing up to unveil a hybrid crossover concept at the 2016 edition. Called as the SsangYong SIV-2 Hybrid (Smart Interface Vehicle), the concept will make its first public appearance on March 1 (media day).
Teased in the form of design sketches, the SIV-2 Hybrid is billed as a mid-size premium SUV concept. It’s is an advanced version of the SIV-1 concept which debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The crossover concept previews a possible production model which would be positioned above the compact Tivoli.
The SIV-2 is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine which is assisted by a compact electric motor and a li-ion battery pack. Further details are kept under wraps as of now. The hybrid powertrain is claimed to be good for efficient driving, low CO2 emissions and silent running at slow speeds. The platform that underpins the SIV-2 is designed to adopt various forms of alternative powertrains such as HEV, PHEV and pure EV.
