The made-in-India (Maruti) Suzuki Baleno is on display at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) which kick started today. The premium hatchback is expected to go on sale in Indonesia later this year or early next year.
Maruti Baleno for the Indonesian market will be powered by the 1.4-litre K14B petrol engine which also powers the Ertiga. The power and torque figures of the engine are not revealed yet but on board the Ertiga, it produces 91.1 PS and 138 Nm of torque.
The motor is mated either to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Dimensions are identical to the India-spec hatchback. The Indo-spec Baleno comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels that are shod with 195/55 R16 tyres.
The show car is finished in black exterior color which is not available in India-spec car. It also features chrome front grill meshing, and grey lip for the front bumper and highlights on the skirts. The Indonesian Baleno also features sportier rear bumper with grey diffuser.
The interior is identical to that of the Indian version Baleno. Equipment level is still under wraps but we expect the hatchback to offer standard dual front airbags and ABS across all variants.
India is the only production base for the Suzuki Baleno in the whole world and Indonesia will source the hatchback in the form of CBU. It will be rivaling the likes of Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai i20, etc.
