India-made Suzuki Baleno in a Rally Sport avatar debuts in Italy

Set to be a contender in motorsports events, the new Suzuki Baleno SR (Rally Sport) has been detailed.

Introduced by Suzuki Italy and complying with national RI Group regulations, the new Suzuki Baleno SR was revealed at the Suzuki Rally Trophy in Rally di Roma 2016. Painted a brilliant shade of yellow and sporting Motorsport stickers across its body, the Suzuki Baleno SR hatchback was driven in by the country’s rally champion Renato Travaglia.

So as to comply with weight limitations, Suzuki Baleno SR interiors have been modified. It gets racing seats with 6 spoint harness, steering wheel by Sparco and hydraulic brakes supplied by Tecno2. It also receives a fire extinguisher which is mandatory for such race spec models. The Baleno SR also gets a suspension setup for Ohlins while the exhaust system is custom made by Gliese Engineering.

Suzuki Baleno SR receives a new 1.0 liter BoosterJet turbo petrol three cylinder engine. This engine offers 110 PS power and 170 Nm torque and is likely to be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. While other details of the engine have not yet been revealed it is indicated that all specifications are on the same standards as Suzuki Swift Sport R1 rally car.

Made in India by Maruti Suzuki, Baleno is being exported across the world. Also nominated for World Car of Year 2017 award, Baleno is now one of the best selling cars in India – sales averaging at about 10,000 units a month. Soon Maruti Suzuki will launch the 1.0 liter BoosterJet engine powered Baleno in India, which will be called as the Baleno RS.
