Suzuki Ciaz to enter production at Thailand plant, launch later this year
Suzuki Ciaz midsized sedan made Thailand debut at the 36th Bangkok Motor Show. It is here that Suzuki officials confirmed their plans to start manufacturing the Ciaz at Thailand plant.
After India and China, Ciaz will enter production in Thailand from June this year. It will be produced at the Suzuki Motor Thailand Co Rayong plant from where the Swift and Celerio are also produced. Thailand’s Rayong Plant also acts as an important export hub from where exports to ASEAN and European countries are conducted.
Suzuki Ciaz sedan first entered production in China, at the Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co. plant. Following this, India production started at Maruti Suzuki India’s Manesar plant in October 2014. Along with the Ciaz sedan on display at the Bangkok Motor Show, the company is also showcasing the Swift, Celerio, Ertiga and the new Carry van.
Unlike India, Thailand only gets a petrol version of Ciaz. This as per local media will be in the form of a K12B four cylinder engine generating 91 hp power. This means, the Thailand spec Ciaz will deliver more power as compared to that of India spec Ciaz. Paired to a CVT transmission, Ciaz in Thailand will deliver about 20 kmpl, which is more than India spec’s 18.74 kmpl. This engine is specially built for Thailand, to meet their “Ecocar” Phase 1 rules.
Expected to be priced in the range of 500,000-680,000 Baht (Rs 9.5 – 13 lakhs), Ciaz will compete with the likes of Honda City, Toyota Vios and Nissan Almera (Sunny) in Thailand.
