Dimensions – Suzuki Gixxer SF turned out to be the biggest in size, totally unexpected due to its slender looks, at length of 1050 mm and width of 785 mm. Height however is average, that is, higher than Yamaha R15 V2.0’s and lower than Yamaha Fazer FI V2.0’s. Other dimensional aspects are actually pretty closer to Fazer FI’s, with same 1,330 mm wheelbase and 160 ground clearance. R15 too has same clearance underneath, but has longer wheelbase, surprisingly. Suzuki Gixxer SF has 780 mm seat height, while Yamaha Fazer FI has it a 10 mm higher and Yamaha R15 V2.0 another 10 mm higher at 800 mm from ground. Fuel tank capacity of all three are same at 12 litres.
Tyre parameters of Gixxer and Fazer are identical, 100/80 – 17 (bias ply) upfront and 140/60 R- 17 (radial) at the rear. R15 wears 90/80 – 17 (bias ply) at the front and 130/7- R17 (radial) at the rear. With all that, Yamaha R15 manages to be the lightest in this rather unusual comparison, measuring 136 kg. Yamaha Fazer FI weighs 137 kg and Suzuki Gixxer SF tips the scale at 139 kg.
Engine & Transmission – Comparing Suzuki Gixxer SF vs Yamaha Fazer FI V2.0, former has a carbureted 154.9 cc engine but latter uses fuel injection system for 149 cc engine. Yet, Gixxer enjoys substantially more power and torque, that is 14.8 PS @ 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm @ 6,000 rpm; compared to 13.1 PS @ 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm @ 6,000 rpm on Yamaha Fazer FI. Both these machines use 5-speed gearbox. Yamaha R15 V2.0 is on a totally different league, as its fuel-injected 149.8 cc engine dishes out 17 PS @ 8,500 rpm and 15 Nm @ 7,500 rpm, which is mated to 6-speed transmission.
Price – The fresh face, Suzuki Gixxer SF being priced at Rs. 83,439 (ex-showroom Delhi) wins the comparison on paper, against Yamaha Fazer FI V2.0 priced at Rs. 86,805. However, if real sporty performance and looks are preferred over masquerading machines, Yamaha R15 V2.0 priced at Rs. 1,19,466 would be the ideal choice.
