Tata Bolt sales decline once again, enters bottom five for June 2015

Tata Bolt sales decline

Tata Bolt, launched earlier this year, has failed to make its mark in the hatchback segment with just 458 units sold in June 2015.

After posting less then expected sales in April and May (633 and 716 respectively); Tata Bolt sales for the month of June 2015 have declined even further.

Tata Motors say that Bolt is a completely new car, right from engine to wiring to parts.

Tata Bolt hatchback sees no dearth of interior features and quality fittings. However, where sales is concerned, it is positioned way down on the list. Other Tata Motors offerings such as Indica and Vista models are also seeing good sale, 5 times more than Bolt, while discontinued hatchback models like the Ford Figo and Maruti Ritz are also experiencing better sales.

Hatchback sales during June 2015 saw Maruti Swift in a leading position with total sales of 17,313 units while in No. 2 and 3 spot was Hyundai Elite i20 and Hyundai Grand i10 with 10,841 and 8,970 units sold respectively.

2,555 units of Tata Motors Indica and Vista were sold while Tata Bolt hatchback which was averaging sales below 1000 units per month plunged further to 458 units in June 2015. Speaking about their other cars, Safari + Safari Storme average sales are at 1,000 units a month, while that of Indigo + Manza are at 2,000 units.

Their newly launched AMT too has not managed to post expected sales. Together, the three variants of Nano which were on offer last month, Old + Twist + GenX have registered sales of 1,700 units.

It was revealed last month that the new Tata Nano GenX AMT sales in first month stand at 3,000 units, but the sales report says something else.

The one car from Tata Motors which performed decently on the sales charts was the new Zest compact sedan. Launched in 2014, Zest sales continue to average over 1,800 units monthly. For June 2015, Tata sold 1,864 units of Zest (which is also their lowest ever since launch).

This decline in sales has pushed Tata Motors to the 6th in the list of largest passenger car maker for FY2015; behind Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, Honda and Toyota. In FY2014, they were at no 4.

Upcoming launches from Tata Motors for this year include Kite hatchback and sedan. This will be followed by a range of new SUVs, starting with Hexa crossover in 2016.
