Following successful launch of Tiago and Nexon, Tata Motors now gears up for launch of the Tata H5X SUV which is actively being tested ahead of launch either later this year or in early 2019. Tata H5X SUV is a 5 seater SUV which will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Maruti S-Cross, etc.
A prototype model was recently spied testing on the outskirts of Pune in Maharashtra by Rushlane reader Rizwan (Rushlane Spylane). Still under heavy camouflage, the model on test sported temporary headlamps and tail lamps. Rizwan also managed to take a peep inside, and shoot a video, which can be viewed below.
Tata H5X will be positioned on a new Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) platform, derived from Land Rover’s L550 platform. It sports a tall and heavy stance of a full sized SUV. The concept which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year, measures 4,575mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,686 mm in height. It had a 2,740 mm wheelbase. Expect the production ready H5X to have similar proportions.
Tata H5X SUV will be the first vehicle to receive Tata Motors Impact 2.0 design language. It will also get the signature Humanity Line, which is also seen on the Nexon. Other features will include flared wheel arches, skid plates, dual tone bumper and LED headlamps with a wraparound tail lamp. It will sit on new alloy wheels. At the rear it gets sharp creases and bulges. It will be seen with a sloping roofline giving it a coupe like stance.
Though no engine specifications have been detailed as on date, the Tata H5X SUV could be powered by a Fiat sourced 2.0 liter Multijet II diesel engine, also seen powering the Compass. The engine will get mated to manual and automatic transmission options. Power output will be in the range of 140 PS.
Expected to be priced under Rs 12 lakh, Tata H5X will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta which is currently the leader in the segment with about 10,000 units sold every month. Price of the Hyundai Creta diesel variant starts from Rs 10 lakhs. But compared to Creta, it will be more spacious, will offer more features, and more powerful. Once officially launched, the Tata H5X SUV will be positioned above the Nexon and below the Hexa in the company line-up.
