Showcased in concept format at the 2018 Auto Expo in February and later in March at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the soon to be launched Tata H5X SUV has been spotted on test once again. The most recent testing was on the ghats and high altitude roads of Ooty in Tamil Nadu.
Tata H5X, as the upcoming 5 seater SUV is called as on date, is the first Tata product to be based on the Impact 2.0 design philosophy. Bearing heavy camouflage, innate details are scarce but yet certain design elements have been brought to the fore.
Tata H5X is based on the advanced Omega (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) platform. It will be seen with flared wheel arches, extended rear overhangs and large outside rear view mirrors. 3D tail lamps, a floating roof line, 19” alloy wheels, dual tone bumpers and sleek crease lines have also been noted.
Tata H5X concept measures 4,575mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,686 mm in height, with a 2,740 mm long wheelbase. Dimensions of the production ready variant are expected to be in a similar range. Its interiors will be spacious with a host of driver and passenger comfort and safety features, though details are not available at the moment.
To be priced in the Rs 12-13 lakh range, the Tata H5X will get its power via a Fiat sourced 2.0 liter MultiJet II diesel engine offering 140 hp power and mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. It will also be offered with a ZF sourced 9 speed automatic transmission.
The Tata H5X will be produced from the same facility as the Jeep Compass. Speaking about rivals, Tata H5X will mainly rivals top end variants of Hyundai Creta, and entry level variants of Jeep Compass upon launch.
