Tata Hexa spied for the first time, retains most of the features from concept

What was unveiled as a promising concept back at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, has already entered road test.

Part of Tata Motors HorizoNEXT campaign, the new Hexa concept is based on a modified Aria platform. It is designed by Tata Motors Design teams in the UK, Italy and here in Pune, where their new cars Bolt and Zest were also designed. Once launched in 2016, Hexa will become the brand’s flagship car, a title which currently belongs to Tata Aria.

Hexa is the first Tata Motors SUV which has been built with inputs from experts at Land Rover. To be powered by a 2.2L VARICOR diesel engine which will deliver 154 hp and 400 Nm torque, it will be the most powerful Tata car on offer. Transmission options on offer are reportedly going to be 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic, again, making Hexa first Tata car to feature a 6 speed MT and AT.

Though completely camouflaged, the spy images do confirm that some parts which were on board the concept will make way to the production ready variant as well. These are ORVM turn nidicators, projector headlamps, stylish 19 inch alloys. What the production ready variant misses out as compared to the concept, are the foglamps. Somehow there are no panel gaps for fog lamps on board the Tata Hexa variant in the images above.

To be offered as a premium crossover, the seating position will be in the form of 2x2x2, all captain seats with arm rests. Interior finish will be done in white and black colours, while seat will get leather upholstery, and so will the steering wheel. You will also have a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and park assist. Instrument panel consists of two circular dials and a colour screen in the centre for MID (Multi-Information Display).

Apart from being loaded with technology, the Hexa will also get many safety features. The strengthened chassis along with six airbags, ABS with EBD, will make Hexa the safest car from Tata Motors on offer.
