Tata Kite 4 and Kite 5 are the codenames of their two new cars. One of them, Kite 4 is already launched and is known as Tiago today. Up next for launch is the Kite 5, which was showcased as a near-production ready concept at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Now, the same car’s top end variant (XZ) has been spied undisguised in production-ready guise for the first time inside the company plant. Seen in metallic brown, the sedan seems to have inspired the rear design from a sportback, which will be a first in this segment.
This is also the first time that the interiors of Kite 5 have been revealed. At the Auto Expo, as well as at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Tata Motors had kept the doors closed, leaving us wondering what surprises will be on offer on the inside. Turns out, the biggest surprise on the inside is rear seat passenger armrest with cup holders and the Auto AC. Everything else is same as Tiago‘s interior.
Engine options on offer with the Kite 5 sedan will be Tata’s new range of petrol and diesel engines from the Revotron and Revotorq family. Petrol engine will be in the form of a 1.2 liter three cylinder generating 85 PS and 114 Nm while diesel mill will be a 1.05 liter 3 cylinder generating 70 PS and 140 Nm. Both engines will be mated to a five speed manual transmission. Spy shots have revealed that along with 5 speed MT, AMT option will also be on offer.
Once launched, new Tata Kite 5 will compete with the likes of Maruti DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent. Expect price to start from INR 4 to 4.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The report also adds that Tata is expected to conduct by end of January 2017 while launch could take place in the following weeks.
