Both petrol and diesel engines are expected to be new. have gotten its hands on what are claimed to be patent sketches of components that will go into upcoming Tata Kite hatchback (codename). The emergence of patents indicate that Tata is pretty close to the D-Day.

The sketches reveal the design of speaker spacer bracket, wheel hub cover with Tata logo and fog light enclosure. While these components don’t really give us a big picture of the design, we already have a fair idea on how the car would look like as the test prototypes are being spied extensively. Latest spyshots showed Narain Karthikeyan behind the wheel. It’s to be noted that India’s first F1 driver was also a part of Bolt/Zest development team.

Based on a refurbished XO platform that is derived from the good old Indica eV2, Kite features a fresh design inside and outside. Like any other Tata passenger car, interior space would be generous.

Under the hood, we are hoping to find new petrol and diesel motors. The petrol option is reported to be 1.2-litre three-cylinder all-aluminium 12-valve engine which is expected to have an output in the vicinity of 75 PS. The diesel unit is expected to be a 1.05-litre three-cylinder unit with an output of 63 PS. While a 5-speed manual unit will be the standard transmission option, Tata is also said to be working on an e-Clutch system which automates clutching process while leaving gear shifting to the driver.
