Tata Safari Storme facelift power, torque increased, gets VariCOR 400 engine
Just a few days back, the company unveiled Tata Hexa concept, which is an SUV planned to slot above the Safari segment next year. With the car, Tata Motors revealed Varicose 400 engine specs, reading 154 hp max power and 400 Nm peak torque, mated to 6-speed manual transmission, with choice of 6-speed automatic too.
Currently, Tata Safari Storme is powered by 2.2 litre VariCOR engine with DOHC (16 valves), generating 140 PS max power @ 4,000 rpm and 320 Nm peak torque @ 1,700 rpm, linked to 5-speed manual gearbox. The yet-to-launch updated version of the SUV was expected to receive the same engine in the state of tune offered in 2014 Tata Aria facelift launched last year. This means, higher power of 150 PS and same peak torque of 320 Nm was expected in Safari Storme facelift, apart from the list of new interior features.
Now, it seems Tata Motors is commissioning the new VariCOR 400 variant of the same 2.2 litre engine to the Safari Storme facelift, before introducing the same in production version of Tata Hexa concept. With slight power bump of 6 PS, massive torque injection of 80 Nm and possibly 6-speed transmission, upcoming Safari Storme facelift would be a pleasurable SUV to negotiate tough terrains.
