Tata Motors has revealed their June 2018 sales report which was up 54% with total sales of 56,773 units. The company’s bestselling Tiago hatchback was among its top selling models during the past month, with sales far surpassing those of its closest rivals Maruti Ignis, Celerio and Renault Kwid.
A total of 8,327 units of Tata Tiago were sold in June 2018 as compared to 6,570 units of Celerio, 4,514 units of Ignis and 4,939 units of Renault Kwid. Tata Tiago sales in June 2018 were even higher than that of Hyundai Eon, of which only 4,270 units were sold.
These growing sales now make Tata Tiago the third best selling entry level hatchback behind Maruti Suzuki Alto and WagonR (both of which are priced lower than Tiago). In addition to this, Tata Tiago has registered an increase in buyers who are women. The small car is finding new buyers and reaching more segments of the country.
Tata Tiago has been noting increased sales well over its competitors, primarily due to it being a larger vehicle with a more affordable price tag. Sales in 2018 are at an all time high for a Tata car in recent years. Jan to June 2018 sales total 45,567 units.
The Tiago is priced from INR 4.1 lakhs as against Maruti Celerio, Ignis and WagonR which are priced at Rs 4.32 lakh, Rs 4.72 lakh and Rs 4.29 lakh respectively,. Though the Renault Kwid is priced from INR 2.67-4.64 lakhs, buyers prefer the Tiago as it is a much larger car with better interior space and features.
Next, Tata Motors gears up for launch of a high performance version of Tata Tiago, called Tiago JTP which will come in with a sub Rs 6 lakh price tag. It was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, and will be launched later this year.
Tata Motors’ newly launched products such as the Tiago hatchback, Tigor sub compact sedan, Nexon sub compact SUV and the Hexa SUV all contributed efficiently to sales. Tata Nexon also overtook Ford EcoSport in terms of sales to become the second best selling sub compact in India.
