Tata Motors has 6 new cars poised for launch from August 2019 to March 2020. These include cars in every segment starting from the Altroz in the premium hatchback segment going up to the 7 seater premium SUV named the Buzzard as on date. There is also the H2X micro SUV, Tata Harrier BS VI automatic and facelifts of the Tiago, Tigor and Nexon slated for launch.

Tata Altroz – This the first launch of the lot. It is a premium hatchback, which was set for launch this month. But has been postponed to next month most likely. It will take on the Baleno and Elite i20 in terms of competition. The Altroz could be priced between Rs.5.5-8.5 lakhs and will sport Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 styling.

It will be positioned on the company’s new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture and will be offered in petrol and diesel engine options. The engines could include powertrains borrowed from the Nexon with the same 1.2 liter petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engines along with manual and AMT options.

Tata Buzzard is a 7 seater premium SUV that is planned for launch by Diwali 2019. It could come in with another name, as the Buzzard was exclusively used when it was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show. Tata Buzzard will go on to be the company’s flagship model. Expected price is around Rs.14 lakhs, while it will compete with the Mahindra XUV500 and the new MG Hector.

Tata Buzzard will be powered by a BS6 compliant 2 liter diesel engine which will deliver 170 PS and 350 Nm via 6 MT. It will also be offered with automatic transmission. New features on offer will include sunroof and larger alloys. Petrol variant is expected to be launched at a later date.

Tata H2X (Hornbill) micro SUV will be showcased in production ready format at the 2020 Auto Expo in Feb 2020, while launch is expected by July 2020. Showcased as a concept earlier this year, the H2X incorporates the IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. It is built on the same platform as Altroz. As per Tata, H2X and Altroz will share 70% of the parts. Expect engine to be borrowed from Tiago. Once launched will rival the Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.

Tata Harrier BS VI – This updated Tata Harrier is also slated for launch in India by the end of 2019. It will be offered at a premium of about Rs.1 lakh, thanks to the BS6 diesel engine. Engine power output will be increased from 140 hp tp 170 hp. Torque output remains same at 350 Nm. Manual 6 speed as well as automatic 6 speed will be on offer as transmission options. Sunroof will also be on offer. Other features remain same.

Tata Tiago / Tigor Facelift – The BS VI compliant Tata Tiago and Tigor facelifts have been regularly spotted on test. The duo is expected to be launched by Jan 2020. The facelifts will sport structural updates as well, so as to comply with new crash test norms. The 1.2 liter, 3 cylinder Revotron petrol engine produces 84 bhp power and 114 Nm torque via 5 speed manual or AMT. Diesel engine will be discontinued.

Tata Nexon Facelift is expected to be launched later this year. It will see no changes in its engine options, as it will be powered by the same 1.2 liter turbo petrol motor or a 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine as is powering its current counterpart. But the engine options will be updated to comply with new BS VI emission standards. Transmission options include 6 speed MT and AMT. Tata Nexon facelift will compete with the Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and Maruti Vitara Brezza once launched.

Tata Altroz EV – With the Govt of India reducing GST on EVs from 12% to 5%, and giving benefits under FAME-2 scheme, 2020 will see a lot of new electric cars getting launched in India. One of them will be the Tata Altroz EV. Showcased in near-production ready format at the Geneva Show earlier this year, the Altroz EV will be ready for launch in H2 2020.
