Top 25 best selling cars June 2019 – Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra feature most

Automobile sales in India have been in slow mode over the past few months and June 2019 has been no different. Every automaker in the country has been noting diminished sales across most models in the company lineup which can be seen in the appended table.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited once again commanded the list with 9 of its models making it to the top 25 list of best selling cars in India in June 2019. The Alto, Swift, DZire, Baleno and WagonR featured in the top 5 with only the Alto receiving positive growth. Sales of the Alto in June 2019 stood at 18,733 units, up 4 percent as compared to 18,070 units sold in June 2018.

The Swift at No. 2 saw sales dip 10 percent from 18,171 units sold in June 2018 to 16,330 units sold in the past month, DZire sales dipped as much as 39 percent but came in at No. 3 on the list with 14,868 units sold as compared to sales of 24,465 units sold in June 2018. Maruti Suzuki Baleno which is sold via NEXA dealers saw sales dip 23 percent to 13,689 units in the past month as compared to sales of 17,850 units sold in June 2018. WagonR sales also dipped 10 percent to 10,228 units in June 2019 even though the third generation WagonR was launched with a 1.2-litre BS6 engine and updated features.

Lower down the order was the Maruti Suzuki Eeco at No. 7, for which sales increased as much as 65 percent in the past month. Sales which stood at 5,612 units in June 2018 went up to 9,265 units last month. Maruti Brezza was at No. 8 with sales down 17 percent from 10,713 units sold in June 2018 to 8,871 units sold last month. Maruti Ertiga was at No. 11 and also showed positive growth of 76 percent from 4,311 units sold in June 2018 to 7,567 units sold last month.

At No. 16 was the Maruti Suzuki Celerio with sales down 26 percent from 6,570 units sold in June 2018 to 4,871 units sold last month while the Ignis also which line the Baleno is sold via NEXA dealerships also suffered lower sales by 36 percent from 4,514 units sold in June 2018 to 2,911 units sold last month thus completing the 9 models in the company lineup that found mention on this list.

Hyundai Motors had the new Elite i20, Venue, Creta, i10 Grand and Santro on this list. In the past month, i20 Elite was at No.6 with sales at 9,271 units, down 18 percent as compared to sales of 11,262 units sold in June 2018. The recently launched Hyundai Venue has found many buyers in the country, attracted towards its first in class features. Hyundai Venue sales stood at 8,763 units in June 2019 posing a threat to other rivals in its segment such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon.

Sales of the new Venue also exceeded that of the company’s Creta for which sales dipped 25 percent from 11,111 units sold in June 2018 to 8,334 units sold in the past month. Hyundai also had the i10 Grand on this list at No. 12 with sales down 33 percent from 10,343 units in June 2018 to 6,907 units last month while finally on the list was the Hyundai Santro at No.21 with sales of 4,141 units.

Tata Motors had the Tiago and Nexon at Nos.12 and 20 respectively. While sales of the Tiago dipped 34 percent from 8,327 units in June 2018 to 5,537 units in the past month, sales of the Nexon increased 1 percent from 4,148 units sold in June 2018 to 4,170 units sold last month.

Honda Amaze and City at Nos. 14 and 25 also noted diminishing sales. Amaze sales dipped 42 percent to 5,300 units in the past month as compared to sales of 9,130 units in the same month of the previous year. City sales fell 37 percent to 2,461 units in the past month as against 3,882 units sold in June 2018.

Mahindra had the Bolero, XUV300 and the Scorpio on this list at Nos. 15, 18 and 23 respectively. Bolero sales dipped 18 percent from 6,229 units sold in June 2018 to 5,118 units sold in the past month while XUV300, which was launched in February 2019, has seen sales of 4,769 units in June 2019, while production has crossed the 25,000 unit mark. Mahindra also noted lower sales for Scorpio which went down to 3,071 units in the past month as compared to 3,323 units sold in June 2018.

Toyota, Renault and Ford also had single offerings on this list of 25 cars sold in the past month. Toyota Innova Crysta at No. 17 saw sales down 25 percent to 4,814 units in the past month as against 6,426 units sold in June 2018. Renault Kwid at No. 19 also noted sales at 4,360 units, down 12 percent as compared to sales of 4,939 units sold in June 2018. Ford EcoSport was at No.22 with sales down 19 percent at 3,254 units in the past month as against sales of 4,007 units sold in June 2018.
