Toyota India plans to offer airbags as standard across all their cars
Toyota models such as the Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback already have airbags while the G trim of Innova MPV will also receive airbags as the company gears up to add airbags in all its models in the country. The addition of airbags in all models will not only ensure that Toyota models are safer, but will also allow the company to gain an edge over other models where safety is concerned.
With all Toyota cars in India being fitted with airbags, prices could increase by about INR 40,000. However, despite this fact, the company is sure that it will be this safety quotient that will give their models a higher standing. Toyota currently sells the Etios Liva, Etios Cross, Etios sedan, Innova, Corolla, Fortuner, Camry, Prius, Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser LC200 in India. Etios range received an update in October 2014 which saw the addition of dual front airbags while now the entire range will see this safety feature being added thanks to the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program.
As per Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) announced by the Government it will be mandatory to keep a check on safety of vehicles and occupants. Each vehicle will be put through BNVSAP located in Pune and Manesar. The facilities will be fitted with the latest in technology and will adhere to AIS 098 and AIS 099 crash standards. This program will be fully operational by the end of this year.
