Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Sapphire has made its global debut at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the RAV4 which is already on sale in Europe, the special showcar comes with a unique shade of blue (which is why the term has been Sapphire included in its name).

Apart from this, the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Sapphire gets body coloured bumpers and side sills. The side sills also get a chrome trim with a RAV4 Hybrid Blue badging. More chrome is seen on the roof rails and grille. Adding to the overall premium look are the 20 inch wheels.

On the inside, the blue treatment is very evident. Seats get black leather upholstery with blue stitching. Same treatment is seen on the dashboard and the steering wheel. Center console gets a piano black inserts while air vents are painted in blue.

Powering the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a full hybrid system. It features a 2.5 liter petrol engine and an electric motor which is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery which is located under the seats. This setup powers the front wheels. There is also an AWD option, which gets additional 50 kW electric motor powering the rear wheels. Transmission is taken care by a E-CVT.

Total power output stands at 194 hp with a 0-100 kmph sprint time of 8.7 seconds while delivering a mileage of over 20 kmpl and 115g/Km CO2 emissions per km.

Speaking about launch plans, Toyota says that the new RAV4 Hybrid Sapphire variant is just a showcar. The idea behind displaying such a car is to let customers know of the immense customization options which will be on offer with the RAV4 Hybrid which is currently in the launch phase.
