Toyota Yaris bookings open – Ciaz, City rival launch by April 2018

Toyota Kirloskar Motors showcased the new Yaris family sedan at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida last month. With market launch set for sometime in second half of April 2018, bookings of the Toyota Yaris have now opened. They are being accepted at authorized Toyota showrooms across India.

Surprisingly, only petrol engine will be on offer with the new Yaris. Diesel engine launch is not planned as of now. The petrol engine will be in the form of a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder mill that generates 108 hp and 140 Nm. This engine is based on the 1.5 liter petrol engine which is on offer with the Etios sedan. This engine delivers 88 hp and 132 Nm.

This means that the Yaris will get a more powerful variant of the engine as compared to Etios sedan. It will also get a 6 speed gearbox, instead of Etios’ 5 speed MT. Additionally, Yaris will also get CVT option.

In terms of features, the new Toyota Yaris will sport sharp design lines, giving the car a sporty look. It gets a slim grille, LED DRLs on its bumper, sharp LED parking lights on the inner side of the headlamp cluster and rear LEDs. It sits on 15” alloy wheels. Interiors will be packed with driver and passenger comforts. Seating is made of faux leather and the drop down armrest at the rear offers added comfort along with built in twin cup holders.

Some segment first features also include 7 airbags, disc brakes on all wheels, tyre pressure monitoring system, gesture control for audio, ABS, EBD, stability control and auto projector headlamps. It will also be seen with a shark fin antenna, rear camera, cruise control, paddle shift, steering mounted controls and touchscreen navigation.

Toyota Yaris will not just be assembled but completely manufactured in India at the Toyota plant on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Body panels will be stamped in Bengaluru and the engine will be assembled from locally sourced components. The new Yaris will be competitively priced to beat competition from already established sedans such as the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.

Expect Toyota Yaris to be priced from Rs 8.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
