Young American two wheeler maker UM Motorcycles will use the upcoming Auto Expo 2016 in February as the launch pad for its Indian innings. The brand which is ready with a local production facility in association with Lohia Auto will launch its Renegade range of cruisers in the first phase of operation.
The company has announced that it will showcase three UM Renegade cruiser variants at the expo. These models are claimed to be designed for the Indian and European markets. The Renegade Sport S cruiser with color coordinated headlamp cowl is confirmed to be one of the first products to be launched in India. The model made its world premiere at the EICMA 2015 in November.
The Renegade Sport S is powered by a 279 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which dishes out 26.6 PS and 22.76 Nm of torque. A 6-speed gearbox propels the rear wheel via a chain drive.
UM Motorcycles is aiming to capture 5% market share in the Indian premium motorcycle that would roughly translate into 3,000 units per month. The company also has plans to export its products to neighboring markets from its Indian plant.
The production facility has enough capacity to accommodate the brand’s first three phases of operations in India. The UM Renegade cruisers will rival the likes of Bajaj Avenger and the upcoming Hyosung Aquila GV300.
