WorldSkills India Final Selection conducted by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) saw two teams from Volkswagen Academy participate. The selected Indian contingent will represent the country at WorldSkills International Competition 2015. In winning the Mechatronics skills competition, Volkswagen Academy team from Chakan plant displayed the exemplary level of mechatronics education imparted by the academy.
The winning duo of Rajiv Mohan Mishra and Varsha Pawale will compete in 27 skills at the finals from 11-16th August 2015. WorldSkills International Competition is a biennial ‘Olympics for Skill’ event that fosters skill development across global youth. Currently, the Indian government is focused on skill development within the country to boost overall development and skilled worked.
Volkswagen Pune Plant Mechatronics apprentices’ team was chosen from 1050 participants across all categories from 113 regional, national and final rounds. 29 finalists competed. Winners were selected by 58 jury members (experts from respective industries). The team headed to WorldSkills International Competition 2015 also clinched the ‘Best of Champions’ title by scoring the highest in 19 skills. Anshuman Srivastava and Sagar Kawade also from the academy finished second.
Peter Raussendorf, Head of Human Resources and Admin, Volkswagen India Private Limited says the apprentices have made VW proud with their performance. Their achievement underlines the high quality of training imparted through the Dual Apprenticeship Programme for Mechatronics and validates the automaker’s efforts in developing highly skilled manpower for the manufacturing industry. He is sure the team will do its best at the WorldSkills International Competition 2015.
