In spite of being of the largest car manufacturer in the world, Volkswagen has struggled in India. Their sales here have been dismal, to say the least. India is considered as one of the biggest and the fastest growing automobile market in the world, with average passenger car sales last year at 2.5 lakh units per month.
Market share of Volkswagen in this is less than 1.5%. In addition to low sales, the company also has problems with after sales service as well as dealer network. The good news is, their cars are loved by auto enthusiasts in India. Volkswagen is aware of the issues which are hampering their sales growth in India, and has promised to bring a turn around.
Recently, Volkswagen India changed their name to SAVWIPL – Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited. Yes, Volkswagen Auto will be handled by the VW Group’s subsidiary, Skoda, in India. A total of Rs 7,000 crores are to be invested by the company in India in the coming few years. Under the aegis of a single leadership, the group aims at increasing the pace of launching new cars, improving after sales, widening dealer network, etc.
The latest car launch as part of this new revival, called Project 2.0; was that of the 2019 Polo and the 2019 Vento. These two cars have been on sale in India for many years now, and are still favourites of those who love to drive. Even after being on sale for years without a generation update, the duo offer top class built quality and driving dynamics.
5 Yr Warranty Free – Apart from launching the two cars, at the event VW India also made an important announcement – from now on, all their diesel cars sold in the country, will get free 5 year warranty. VW diesel cars sold in India are Polo, Vento, Ameo, Passat and Tiguan. All five cars now get free 5 year warranty. This has been done by the company so as to increase confidence of their consumers in brand Volkswagen.
Management Speak – Speaking at the launch of the new Polo & Vento, Mr. Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, “With this new introduction, we also offer our customers a comprehensive after-sales program that ensures a hassle-free experience. Starting 1st January 2019, all Volkswagen carlines offer standardized vehicle warranty of up to 4year/100,000 km, 4-year free roadside assistance (RSA) and three free services to our customers.
