With Buddh International Circuit and MMSC racetrack in Chennai opening its doors to private owners to race their cars along the tracks, racing-spec cars will soon find favor among private buyers in the country.
This can already be seen with Volkswagen Motorsports, the racing division of Volkswagen, offering race spec versions of the Ameo compact sedan and Vento sedan to customers. These race spec models will cost double that of their road worthy counterparts and will exclusively for use on the race tract as they will not be road worthy.
The fully loaded race spec Volkswagen Ameo and Vento will carry price tags of Rs 40 lakhs while the not so loaded, entry level race spec models will be priced at Rs 24 lakhs each, reveals Car and Bike. This is against the road spec models of the Vento that is priced from Rs 7.70 – 11.60 lakhs and the Ameo which is priced from Rs 5.65-10.00 lakhs.
The entry level race spec Volkswagen Ameo engine is tuned to deliver 205 bhp peak power and that of Vento offers 250 hp. The top spec racing versions can be pushed up to 300 bhp. Both the cars get 1.8 liter TSI petrol, turbocharged engine mated to a sequential gearbox with automatic mode and front wheel drive.
The race spec models come in with fire extinguisher, OMP race seat and other key features. The two models also sport a roll cage, harness and KW suspension with Eibach springs which are standard race track requisites.
The Volkswagen Vento and Ameo racing cars will also receive data logging system and engine management system with digital instrument console while buyers will be offered several modifications among which will also be after market MRF ZLO racing slick tyres. It goes without saying that the race spec versions are not road legal. You cannot drive them on public roads. They are strictly for track use.
