Scoop – Volvo S90 India launch by November 2016

Taking to Rushlane on the sidelines of 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India (seen in the image above next to the S90), stated that the new Volvo S90 flagship luxury sedan will be launched in India by November 2016. The S90 is an upmarket replacement for the S80 which has gotten long in the tooth.

Based on the Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which was introduced by the new XC90, the S90 adopts the brand’s transformed design language with the Thor’s hammer LED light signature, squarish grille and a sheet metal design that exudes understated elegance.
The sedan’s interior too derives its basic design and layout from its SUV stablemate. A prominent touchscreen infotainment display and a configurable digital instrument console ensure that most functions of the vehicle can be controlled without having to use several buttons and knobs. The interior is composed of plush leather, soft touch plastic, high quality metal and top notch trims elements. As is the case with the new XC90, the S90’s equipment list is endless with myriad of safety assistance features.

The Volvo S90 is powered by a range of downsized turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The range topping variant offers a V8 equaling performance by enlisting the help of an electric motor and a battery pack.
To be pitted against the Mercedes E Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, the Volvo S90 will be imported into India as a CBU. Expect the prices to start at around INR 60 lakh (ex-showroom).
