VW Ameo compact sedan teased; watch German engineers make jalebi

VW Ameo Jalabi teaser video

The Ameo would be launched in mid-2016.

The VW Ameo has been teased again but the new video doesn’t show the car at all. Instead, it implies that the combination of precise German engineering and Indian culture would make for a superior product.

The humorous video titled “What if German engineers make jalebi?” shows three Germans making a perfectly geometrical jalebi through a meticulous process. The video also signifies the fact that the Ameo sub-4m compact sedan engineered specifically for India.

Based on the Polo platform, the Maruti Dzire rival derives its exterior and interior design from the Polo but gets a stubby third box with body features. The front fascia is likely to get new grille, headlamps and bumper.

To be slotted between the Polo and Vento, the Ameo will be be borrowing its powertrain lineup from the Polo. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engines would be propelling the sedan but if remains to be seen whether VW will also offer the range-topping 1.2-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol motor as well.

As far as features go, we expect the volume spinner to offer airbags and dual airbags as standard equipment. The VW Ameo would rely on heavy localization to arrive at a competitive price point. The car will pick up a fight with the Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Tata Zest.
