Volkswagen introduced the all electric VW I.D. Vizzion concept at the Volkswagen Group Night Genf (2018) with a promise to hit the roads by 2022 at the latest. The Baladi Orange colored concept displays the future of individual mobility, electric and fully automatic cars. It will launch with an all electric architecture and will be capable of the highest Level 5 autonomous driving operated by voice, gestures and automated reality with HoloLens.
Volkswagen VW I.D. Vizzion concept measures 5,163 mm in length, 1,947 in width and 1,506 mm in height and has a 3,100 mm long wheelbase. Complying with Level 5 autonomous driving, it does not need a driver’s seat, steering wheel, dash board or foot pedals and this clears up space in its interiors for added room for passengers.
Boot space stands at 565 liters. It is fitted with interconnected laser scanners, ultrasonic sensors and radar sensors for long distances besides front and rear cameras and side view cameras. Traffic data is synced via the cloud.
Engine specifications on the 4 seater Volkswagen VW I.D. Vizzion concept includes an electric all wheel drive system with two electric motors. The 75 kW unit is positioned on the front axle while a 150 kW unit is placed on the rear axle generating combined power of 225 kW.
A 111 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is placed on the vehicle floor providing energy to these two electric motors offering a driving range of 665 km. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 6.3 seconds and top speed stands at 180 kmph.
At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen said, “We plan to build around one million all-electric vehicles per year already by 2025. The compact I.D. and the I.D.CROZZ SUV will make their debut in 2020. They will be followed in 2022 by the I.D. BUZZ large capacity passenger vehicle, as well as the I.D. VIZZION already mentioned which is being presented in Geneva.”
