India Yamaha Motor have discontinued both Yamaha Fazer and the Yamaha FZ-S from their line-up. The reason both have been discontinued is to make way for newer and more updated products. Last year too Yamaha India had played a similar move by discontinuing SZ-S, YBR 125, YBR 110, SZ-RR, and SS 125.
Both Yamaha Fazer and its semi-faired version, FZ-S were powered by the same 153 cc engine. This carbureted engine was capable of generating 14 PS power and 13.6 Nm of torque via a five-speed gearbox. The price of these bikes ranged from INR 75-80,000, ex-showroom.
Another reason for the discontinuation of these bikes was declining sales. Ever since Yamaha India launched the FI versions of both Fazer and FZ-S, sales of the carbureted versions started to decline. This was because FI versions were not only more efficient they also had a much more responsive system thanks to Yamaha’s new Blue Core technology.
Surprisingly, the old Yamaha FZ with carbureted engine is still on sale. The reason being it is the most affordable in the FZ series and continues to bring in a reasonable number of sales each month.
This means Yamaha Saluto and Yamaha FZ are the only motorcycles in company line-up which are not available with FI. Yamaha India domestic motorcycle line-up includes – R3, R15 V2, R15 S, Fazer FI, FZ-S FI, FZ-FI, FZ, SZ-RR V2, and Saluto.
