Economic Times reports that the Yamaha MT-03 street fighter which was unveiled at the EICMA 2015 has been confirmed to be launched in India. The motorcycle shares its mechanical elements with the fully faired R3 sportsbike but features a design that is inline with the brand’s MT range of naked bikes.
The prominent fuel tank with side intake pods, a sporty headlamp, exposed chassis and simple tailpiece give the MT-03 a purposeful look. Like any other naked street bike, the new Yamaha offers a comfortable and relaxed riding position.
Power comes from a 321 cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine which is mated to a 6-speed gearbox to develop 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque (identical to R3). The bike is suspended by telescopic front fork and rear mono shock. Both wheels employ a disc brake each.
The Yamaha MT-03 is most likely to be imported from Indonesia via CKD route and assembled locally just like the R3. The naked bike will lock horns with the DSK-Benelli TNT300, Kawasaki Z250 and KTM Duke 390. Expect the MT-03 to be priced at around INR 3 lakhs (ex-showroom).
