A pre-production prototype of the Yamaha MT-07 Tenere adventure tourer has been spied near the two-wheeler maker’s test facility in Italy. The MT-07 based off-roader has been in the news for quite some time now but this is the first concrete evidence of its existence.
As the spy shot clearly indicate, the MT-07 Tenere is a true-blue off-roader with several new components that are developed from scratch such as the long travel suspension system, subframe, swing arm, etc. The motorcycle appears to be equipped with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels. Off-road tyres and a high-mounted exhaust canister (for a high water wading capability) further highlight its hardcore appeal.
It’s too early to talk about the finer details of the design as the prototype is devoid of complete bodywork. Expect a slim physique with a semi fairing, angular headlamp, tall windshield, split seats and a sleek tail-piece. The motorcycle will be equipped with provisions to carry panniers.
Not much is known about the MT-07 Tenere adventure tourer’s technical aspects but one can expect the MT-07 street fighter’s 689 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine to be carried over. The powerplant would comply with Euro4 emission norms and would be tweaked to suit off-road application. A 6-speed gearbox would harness the output. Power and torque output would be around 75 PS and 70 Nm of torque.

The Yamaha MT-07 Tenere, as evident from the spy shot, is still in the early stages of testing so it’s not expected to see the light of day before 2017. It would be pitted against the likes of Triumph Tiger 800 and BMW F 700 GS.
