Yamaha Nozza Grande scooter spied in India, to rival Honda Activa 125
The outburst for already high selling commuter scooter segment has caught the attention two-wheeler makers in India. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India launched new Honda Activa 3G with no noteworthy change from previous model (because it has always been the king of the segment), and has unveiled new colours for Dio (set to go on sale shortly (by end of March). Hero is prepping launch of two new scooters (most likely Dash and Dare), Mahindra is working on a 125 cc version of Gusto and similar plans are being hatched for 2015 to be note as a year for scooters in India, with anticipation for 21 percent growth (this fiscal).
Yamaha Nozza Grande is a scooter manufactured by Yamaha Motor Vietnam. It is driven by a new 125 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with fuel injection, capable of delivering 54 kmpl mileage.
In mid-2014, reports emerged that Yamaha Motor India was planning on a new 125 cc scooter codenamed 04X, which would be based on the Nozza Grande, given that 08X was developed for Asian markets. Spotting the same in Chennai (where the company plans to manufacture the new 04X scooter) cannot be just a coincidence and is less likely that is it is being tested by a rival company for benchmarking.
As per last year’s reports, the 125 cc scooter would be launched in April 2015 at the new / second plant which will have capacity to produce 1,20,000 units a year. The model will sit above the Japanese two-wheeler major’s current scooter line up including Ray and Alpha (both belong to 110 cc segment).
