India Yamaha Motors Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Company, formed in 2008, produces a range of motorcycles both for domestic use and exports. The range includes the Crux, YBR 110, YBR 125, SS 125, SZ-X, FZ16, Fazer, and R15.
Now, a new bike is poised for launch. Called Yamaha Saluto 125, this motorcycle was recently spied. From the image, the new Yamaha 125 cc motorcycle looks like a commuter segment motorcycle. It could be positioned above the SS125.
Yamaha Saluto 125 launch is scheduled sometime in H2 2015. It will be positioned as a premium commuter motorcycle. With features similar to those seen on other Yamaha 125cc bikes, Yamaha Saluto 125 will sport a 125cc engine, expected to deliver 11 PS peak power and 10.5 Nm peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 5 speed gearbox.
Yamaha may also add a disc brake to the Yamaha Saluto 125, to enhance its positioning. Pricing details of Yamaha Saluto 125 are tentative and slated to be in the region of INR 60,000, as it will be positioned between the SS125 and Yamaha SZ.
India is fast emerging as the company’s most important market. Just yesterday the company announced that their scooters will now come with Blue Core Technology, which will deliver better power and fuel efficiency. Apart from this, the company has important launches lined up for this year, like a new 125cc scooter and R3 sportsbike.
Yamaha Chennai plant begins production this year with capacity to be increased in phases; to 1.8 million units over the next three years. This will help the company meet rising demand for scooters and motorcycles in India.
