Renault Captur launched in India – Price Rs 9.99 lakh – Rs 13.88 lakh

Renault India, the Indian subsidiary of the famous French car manufacturer, has launched the much awaited Captur, aka Kaptur, crossover in India. It costs higher than the Duster and will rival mainly the Maruti S-Cross, Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500. The Captur is already on sale in several markets and its India launch will happen after much delay. Underpinning the new SUV is Duster’s B0 platform. In Europe, the model is based on the Clio’s platform, but for India, the architecture will be shared with the Duster to keep costs in control. It will even help the Indian model to be longer and wider, and hence, more spacious than its European sister. We test drove the Captur a few weeks back, and you can read the detailed review here.

Renault India says that the Captur offers a really fresh design that will impress the urban crossover buyers. Its front-end is characterized by a V-shaped grille that is flanked by a really sleek pair of headlamps. In the side profile, it looks sporty due to a flared wheel arches and a really sleek profile. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,329 mm in length, 1,813 mm in width and 1,619 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2,673 mm. The new crossover enjoys a ground clearance of 212 mm, which is something that buyers will high appreciate. At the rear, the car gets premium-looking taillamps that boast C-shaped LED elements. Further enhancing the visual appeal are the dual tone paint schemes.

Even the interior looks modern and contemporary like the exterior. The crossover’s cabin offers a premium feel and the features list and quality of materials stands at par with the Hyundai. Like its main adversary, the new Renault SUV in India will be a strict 5-seater. However, the cabin space will be enough to offer good legspace and shoulder-room to occupants at both the front and the rear. Safety features will include front airbags, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and anti-theft alarm.

Powering the Captur are the same 1.5-litre Petrol and Diesel engines that power the Duster. This means that the new Renault SUV might even get a CVT for the petrol and an AMT for the Diesel engine option. The Petrol engine pumps out a peak power of 105 BHP for the Duster. The famous K9K Diesel engine offers 108 BHP. The engines might be retuned for the new SUV though. It will come with both front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive formats. This will ensure that the Captur is pretty capable even off the road.
