Sonalika to open world’s largest tractor manufacturing plant in Punjab next month
The new assembly line at Sonalika plant in Hoshiarpur, Punjab will take installed capacity up by two lakh tractors annually.
Sonalika ITL, a leading tractor manufacturer with its manufacturing facility in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, has set up a fully integrated assembly line for tractors. This new facility spans an area of 225,000 sq mtrs and will take total production up by 200,000 units annually offering employment to 1,500 persons.
An amount of INR 500 crores has been invested into this new line which is highly environmentally friendly boasting of natural light and ventilation and which complies with all industrial safety standards as laid down by OHSAS. The older production line, which has capacity of 100,000 units will cater to export demands which stood at 12,241 units in FY 2016-17.
Equipment employed for use on this new production line includes the latest in production technologies such as Pokayoke systems, under pit conveyors and power and free conveyours besides a robotic chassis paint shop. It also sports designs such as sub assembly lines, a differential assembly system and gearbox assembly.
With total capacity at 225 units per shift, Sonalika ITL targets 120,000 units during the current financial year, utilizing 60% of this domestic specific line. The new employment process is currently underway with new candidates being selected through Industrial Training Institutes. More than 80% of the workforces at the Sonalika Plant are from within a 100 km radius with the balance 20% being from other states.
The third largest tractor manufacturer in the world, Sonalika has been posting impressive growth over the last few years. Last year too, their sales posted a growth of 19.6% by selling 81,531 tractors, their highest till date. With the start of this new plant, they expect to break the sales record yet again this year.
