Tata Communications takes on as F1 global technology partner: F1 race weekend sees upto 7 million visitors on Formula1.com

Tata Communications has now announced a ‘multi-year technology service and marketing agreement’ with Formula One Management. This sees Tata Communications deliver much needed connectivity to all 20 F1 race locations through their global network, the largest globally.

Tata Communications is also responsible for ‘hosting and content delivery services to Formula1.com’ globally accessed by millions daily. Tata Communications will now be recognized as Technology Supplier of Formula 1™ and would be the ‘Official Connectivity Provider of Formula 1™ and Official Web Hosting and Content Delivery Network of Formula1.com’.

Supported by secure MPLS connectivity, F1 management’s IT infrastructure and Formula1.com would now be co-located and hosted in Tata Communications’ globall data centres. Managing Director and CEO of Tata Communications, Vinod Kumar had this to say. “Formula 1 requires fast and secure connectivity, because even a split second of downtime can have huge repercussions for its business, brand and reputation.” “This delivery is at the heart of our organisation and working with one of the world’s most highly technical and innovative organisations is an exciting opportunity for Tata Communications. Tata Communications’ video and content delivery networks (“CDN”) would warrant uninterrupted, high-quality connectivity for the Formula1.com multi-media portal.TGN offers Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Pacific data transfer capacity of 1 terabit per second, and would support Formula1.com coverage on race weekends when the portal averages four million unique visits and peaks at 7 million for some F1 races. Tata Communications’ infrastructure would ensure website reliability through sudden traffic spikes.

Formula1.com will now have a Managed Security Suite with an additional layer of managed security monitoring for optimum protection of Formula One Management’s IT infrastructure. Moving forward, Formula One Management and Tata Communications would work on latest video technologies, and research and development around connectivity.
