India’s first International Drag race event was held at Aamby Valley on the 9th and 10th March 2013. This event was held to promote drag racing in India and give citizens and insight into the world of motorsports. Sport bikes and cars as also machines built from scratch were seen during the two day event which saw spectators congregate on site from far and wide. Participants displayed superior driving/ riding skills during the two day event.
Spectators were treated to spectacles of Porsche’s, Audi’s, BMW’s, and Bentleys’, Merc’s, a Lamborghini and Indian stock vehicles lining up on the tarmac for a race of their lifetime. A large number of the participants took part in such an event for the very first time and it was great to see many of them displaying vehicles crafted to suit necessities of the event.
Highlight of this two day event was the exhibition run by Ricky Gadson and the first land run of the Y2K bike in India. Both these sessions were met by tumultuous applause by crowds gathered. RSA a stunting group also performed for crowds gathered. Stunts ranged from wheelies, to stoppies (both rolling and stationary). Though crowds enjoyed the event, it would be good to see more attention being paid to arrangements since both participants and audiences are required to spend two long sunny days at the venue.
