1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud with cocktail bar in boot goes under auctioneers hammer
A novel though expensive way to drink and drive is projected through the 1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud which possesses a cocktail bar in its boot. This 54 year old car which has just covered 42,000 miles will go under the auctioneers hammer on May 12, 2012 and is expected to fetch upwards of £ 1 million at an auction to be held in the land of the rich and famous – Monaco.
The car comes complete with a cocktail bar in its boot and is said to be one of the most flamboyant makeovers ever seen. The coupe meant for two is one of just two models ever built and is also known as the Honeymoon Express as it has no rear seats only an enormous boot. Should have been called the Tippler’s Express instead.
RM Auctions who will be auctioning this vehicle is expecting over a £1 million for the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. Freestone & Webb have spent over three months working on this Rolls Royce. Designing it out of the ordinary, the vehicle is fitted with vertical tail fins. It is designed for two passengers with adjustable bucket front seats and foldable armrests. Excessive use of leather is seen in its interior and the company has opted for Swedish raised cattle renowned specially for their leather due to the fact that barbed wire and electric fences are banned in the country. In the rear storage area, a pair of cocktail cabinets, containing a cocktail shaker and four crystal whiskey tumblers is an added feature.
The hydraulically operated top opens and shuts with least amount of effort. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained which coupled with the mere 42,000 miles covered along with its luxury features is the reason why the stakes are so high at the upcoming auction.
