Skoda double digit growth recorded for February 2012: Skoda Rapid rockstar in Indian auto market
The month of February reaped further rewards for Czech auto manufacturers Skoda, a Volkswagen Group entity. Sales increased by 13.1% and went ahead of the 72,100 figure. Extensive growth was seen in countries like Europe, India and China.
Mr. Jurgen Stackmann, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at Skoda said that sales during the month of January were excellent for the company and February too followed suit. Skoda launched the new Skoda Citigo, a five door version at the Geneva Motor Show and will be introduced in major European markets in the near future. Stackmann said that the company was on course of their 2018 growth strategy.
Skoda Yeti has seen tremendous response and the company has sold 6200 units, up 29.2% as compared to the same time last year. Octavia sales too were up 17.2%. Skoda fared well both in Europe and the UK markets increasing their market share in Europe from 2.85% in February 2011 to 3.2% in February 2012 with sales reaching 27,700 while in UK markets sales were recorded at 5370 an increase of 13% as compared to sales during January – February 2011.
Where upcoming markets of China and India were concerned, Skoda sold 17,100 cars in China during February 2012 up 19% from the previous year. Both Fabia and Octavia were well received in China. In Indian markets too Skoda sold more than 3500 cars in February 2012, resulting in a growth of 46.6% as compared to February 2011. In the Indian auto market, the Skoda Rapid compact saloon was much in demand and accounted for more than half of sales within the country, more so since it has been designed specially with Indian needs in mind. Skoda sales were also high in markets of Australia and Egypt where growth of 138.2% was recorded in Australia while in Egypt sales were up 500%.
