BMW Group bags 11 prizes at 2012 Red Dot Awards

The Red Dot Awards are prestigious awards awarded to innovative designs ever since 1955.  It is handed out by the German Institute of Design Zentrum Nordrhien-Westfalen and is more commonly known as the Nobel Prize of design.

This year the BMW Group gets 11 prizes for their designs which also includes one of the highest awards – Best of the Best for their BMW AirFlow 2 helmet and Husqvarna Nuda 900R motorcycle. BMW also receives the award for 6 Series Gran Coupe, 6 Series Coupe, M5, 1 Series M Coupe, C600 Sport, C650 GT, K1600 GT and G650 GS.  The award function will take place at Aalto Theatre in Essen on the 2nd of July 2012.

A special jury of 30 experts in the design field offers these awards for exceptional designs not only in cars but in all fields such as architecture, life sciences, medicine and electronics.  For the year 2012, 1800 major companies and designers from 58 countries have taken part in these awards resulting in a total of 4515 entries in 19 categories.

Through a series of stringent tests BMW has emerged with 11 awards including 2 for the Nuda 900 and Airflow 2 helmet.  This helmet possesses a special visor, offering maximum ventilation and is light weight to boot.  Nuda 900 R motorcycle showcases BMW commitment to engineering proficiency.  It is aerodynamically designed that portrays the bike as a racing model.

BMW 3 Series received special mention at the Red Dot award 2012 specifically due to its attention to detail.  This sports sedan is sporty, elegant and offers a host of exciting external and internal features.  Receipt of Red Dot awards is not new for a company like BMW.  In 2011 the company received awards for 6 series Convertible, X3, 5 Series touring while in 2010 BMW received 11 awards and in 2009 they bagged 7.
