The commercial vehicle sector is instantly affected by economic fluctuations. While this may have an impact on commercial vehicle sales Daimler Trucks is able to withstand these cyclical fluctuations as can be seen from their 2012 results. Difficult times notwithstanding Daimler Trucks saw increased sales throughout the past year. Unit sales of the divisions 6 brands – Mercedes Benz, Fuso, Freightliner, Western Star, Thomas Built Buses and Bharat Benz totaled 424,000 units during the period January to November 2012 as against 371,000 units in the same period of 2011. This resulted in a 14 percent increase in sales.
In India Daimler Trucks is represented through BharatBenz.Daimler wherein a total of €700 million has been invested at their new truck plant in Chennai. Operations at this plant have commenced since April 2012 with a current manufacturing capacity of 36,000 units per year while capacity is scheduled to be expanded to 70,000 units in due course.
