DC Design to setup manufacturing facility in Sanand for Avanti and Super SUV
DC Design, the car design firm of Dilip Chhabria is all set to turn into a full fledged car manufacturing firm by 2014. DC Design will invest Rs 60 crores and setup their new manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat.
This is the same place in Gujarat, where Tata Motors has built their Nano manufacturing plant and Ford is currently building their new $1 billion plant. DC Design’s Sanand unit will have an annual output capacity to produce 3,500 cars.
This new plant is scheduled to be ready by 2014. The first car to enter production, will be the Avanti sports car. Avanti was showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo last year. To be priced at just Rs 25 lakhs, DC Design will follow up with a new sports SUV after the Avanti is launched. DC says, that their Pune plant will start rolling out the Avanti by 2013 end.
Speaking to ET, Dilib Chhbria says, “I want DC Design to manufacture limited edition cars. Once we are done with 4000 units of one variant, we would phase that out and introduce a new model in the market. With aspirational young executives getting on board to own their sports car and luxury cars, we have decided to operate in the 25-30 lakh segment.”
Apart from building cars in Gujarat, DC Design is also working on setting up a design school for automotive enthusiasts in the state. DC Design has already associated itself with Pune’s DC-DYP College.
